Scrapland is a third person action-adventure game set in a futuristic world which is occupied by robots. You are a robot named D-Tritus who arrives a little bit too late to find out that Scrapland had been rebuilt into a huge metropolitan city packed with skyscrapers. You will also find out that there had been many murders lingering around, and you of course end up in some trouble, but thankfully you have some friends to help you out through this great journey.
Scrapland is definitely a game that stands out from the rest, just because it is so unique. The reasons Scrapland is so unique are easily noticed. One huge unique aspect of Scrapland is that you can build your own ships and pilot them, that’s definitely not something that you see very often. You can build your ship with different types of engines and weapons which you can use against opponents. You can also transform into 15 different types of characters enabling you to have unique abilities. Although Scrapland won’t be the best looking game on the XBOX, it still looks great. With a futuristic look and vibrant colors, Scrapland looks visually beautiful.
If you have already seen or played the PC version then you know that Scrapland uses a Grand Theft Auto style. If you ask for my opinion on Grand Theft Auto styled games lately, then my response will be focused on how sick I am getting of that kind of style. But Scrapland is an exception. The first thing that comes to my mind when I hear about Grand Theft Auto is freedom. Scrapland executes the same kind of freedom very well, unlike some of the latest games such as Need For Speed Underground 2 in my opinion.
Let’s not forget about Scrapland’s multiplayer features. The multiplayer game types in Scrapland aren’t as unique as the game itself, you will be able to play games such as capture the flag and deathmatch. So far I have not seen any info at all for Scrapland’s online mode, although the official Scrapland website says that you can import ships built in single player to online arenas.
Hopefully MercurySteam has improved the PC version of Scrapland for XBOX. Overall, Scrapland packs a powerful punch at a very appealing price of $29.99. The game has been slightly delayed 6 days from 1/25/05 to 2/1/05 which really isn’t that big of a deal. Make sure you check back soon for our review on Scrapland and keep your eyes peeled for upcoming info on the game.
