The long awaited Oddworld: Strangers Wrath has finally arrived. Oddworld Inhabitants and Electronic Arts team up to bring you yet another game in the Oddworld franchise. I wasn’t too fond of the first Oddworld game to hit the Xbox, (Oddworld: Munch’s Oddyssey) a long with some of the other launch titles. After playing a short demo of Oddworld: Munch’s Odyssey back in the day, I was quickly confused. Thinking of how much better Oddworld Inhabitants could’ve made it. Corny humor and cocky little bastards running around burping and farting, I wasn’t very amused with the game. But then again, Oddworld Inhabitants has a history of producing unique and humorous titles for all to love or hate. But, after seeing the engrossing gameplay and all the unique features that Oddworld: Strangers Wrath features, it was for sure a must play on my list.
Features :
Supports Dolby Digital sound.
New live ammo feature is amazing.
Fun boss battles and mediocre A.I.
Spectacular control scheme.
Good for 20+ hour gameplay.
No potions or med kits involved, healing is only done by yourself.
Money is now called, “Moolah”
You start off as Stranger, known around the globe for his incredible skills on taking down the bad guys. The goal of the game is to achieve $20,000 as soon as possible. Why you need the $20,000 is what I’m not going to tell you. The story doesn’t really form completely until about seven hours into the game. When you find out the full effects of the story, you will start to understand some off the odd tasks and obstacles you faced throughout the game. Overall, the story line was put together very carefully and thoughtfully. There are also shops known as General Stores, which sell live ammo, upgrades, armor, and other specific items that help in the game.
Throughout the game you can accept the assignments of capturing or killing the chosen villain. The boss battles are simply uneven. One boss battle will be fairly easy, and the next will act as one of the hardest bosses you’ve ever challenged in a game. This happens almost with every other boss fight. At will, you have the option of choosing which villain you’d like to capture and turn in for a hefty fee. The amount of moolah you receive in the game is based on if you capture them or kill them. Basically, you want to capture as many enemies possible. The more enemies you capture, the more moolah you receive from the Bounty Shop. For example: If you turn in an enemy that’s dead, you will receive about ¼ as much as you would if the enemy was captured alive.
The only actual weapon that Stranger uses is the crossbow, which is used for everything combat. Your crossbow can hold love ammo on the left and right side of the bow. So if you pull the R trigger, it fires the right live ammo, and vice versa. You can also upgrade your crossbow if wanted. A scope is also available for buy to be mounted on top of the crossbow. Using the black button you can zoom in and pick of your enemies one by one. Funny and "odd" sounds are created when an enemy gets a Thudslug straight to the head. The cocky and corny humor in the game can give you a laugh or two. The Grubbs are peaceful little creatures that are scared to death of you in the beginning of the game. And as the game progresses they begin to like you more and more as not only a hero, but also as a friend.
