Phantom Dust
Today we review the sleeper hit from Majesco Games, Phantom Dust. This game has easily reached mine and nearly everyone else's exceptions of being a great game. Phantom Dust is truly an amazing game that should not go unnoticed.

Phantom Dust…umm what to say... Hmmm how about original? Wait how about innovated… Now I got it is a great game to sum it up. Phantom dust is what we call a sleeper hit in the gaming community. It is not hype up like your average Halo, fable and what not games but just by it presence alone and word of mouth it becomes a hit. This is not just another game but also a game that it is addicting to it nature. Also, the link of Xbox single player with Xbox live is more unique then any Xbox live game I have ever played.

The story behind Phantom Dust is a group of people called “Visions” are on once known to be Earth and have lost their memory due to this mysterious dust called “Phantom Dust”. To some this dust gave people magical powers to create energy into actual thought which is used in majority of battles. Now since the dust actually makes you forget your memory you can not stay outside of the surface for long. The now and day humans (visions) live underground where they are not effected by the dust affects. Since the humans (vision) do not remember there past, they go to the surface to find clues about what happen to them and who they once were. Since you were found in an undisclosed location on the surface, you are a part of their mission to find what happen to them and yourself. This is possibly the easiest way I can explain it to you without playing the game and blowing up your head trying to comprehend.

Now to most people who are familiar with any type of card battle game will know the Phantom Dust resembles it game-play wise. I prefer to link it with Yu-gi-oh TCG which I play occasionally with my friends (I am such a dork). Not to worry for you hardcore insecure gamers because this is actually worth the time of playing. Also, to add that the game-play is innovated to my belief since I never play a game like this.

Let us start out with the scenario mode or single player mode in another term of speaking. The story begins with what I just explain in the second paragraph and you start off by gaining a name. The game itself will give you a name of their choice as long as you approve. Once all the blah blah blah is over which there is a lot of though it is imperative to the storyline you begin your missions. In your missions, you begin small to learn the steps of how to use your skills (weapons). It is also to get you familiar of how the game works. Now this is where you become to the obvious fact that the maps you play in are not vast and easy to explore but just a mini area. Also, you begin to notice the repetitiveness of 70% of the missions you will do in Phantom Dust. Well you better get use to it because there are about 110+ missions you have to complete in order to finish the game. Not to mention that most of these missions have sort of a Ninja Gaiden style of difficulty to them. The plus side to this is that the environment of map you play in is totally destructible and the storyline is well worth it. You can also be affected physically if you suddenly find yourself in the way of a falling object. You will also notice that the creature’s appearances are limited and bound to face the same monsters over again. The creatures use different skills so at least you will not notice the difference to much.

You will then learn the combat system which is possibly the most impressive part of the game. The skills (weapons) you get to use are limited considering that your arsenal (deck holder) can only fill up with two schools (types of weapons or cards) for the moment. The schools are Psycho, Optical, Nature, Ki, and faith which are kind of like Jade empire martial techniques you can perform. Now the skills in your arsenal is totally random so depending on what you get depends on how much you put into the arsenal itself. You can only put 4 skills into your combat system (x,y, a, b) which is randomly entered in and 3 re-spawn-ible skill locations. You will begin to rapidly die if you use all 30 skills in your arsenal. There are different types of skill category you can choose to put into your arsenal which are Attack, Defense, Erase (Erase a skill according to the skill description), Status (changes you, or your opponent status like speed etc…according to the skill description), Environmental (Changes the battlefield conditions according to the skill condition) and Special (unique skills that can affect a player for better or worse.) There are 300 skills to encounter while playing the scenario mode which leaves you wondering on what skills your missing on to make your arsenal better. Though the storyline is solid with seven chapters to unfold, all you want to do is unlock all the items and abilities you can possibly can to become stronger on live. Going on Xbox live is possibly the main reason to do the scenario mode which I will explain now.
