Lately, Capcom have been putting out a lot of complications, one of the most praised complications is none other than the Mega Man Anniversary Collection, and most are awaiting the next Mega Man collection - Mega Man X Collection, a collection that contains Mega Man X through X6. Meanwhile, most are playing Street Fighter Anniversary Collection over Xbox Live. Well, with all that mentioned, Capcom comes out with a HUGE collection – of something rare in the gaming industry: Perfect Arcade Ports. Re-Read that again, PERFECT. There will be at least 20 games in Capcom Classics, and they are:
- 1942
- 1943
- 1943 Kai
- Gun Smoke
- Mercs
- Commando
- Higemaru
- Vulgus
- Street Fighter II
- Street Fighter II Championship Edition
- Street Fighter II Turbo
- Ghosts and Goblins
- Ghouls and Ghosts
- Super Ghouls and Ghosts
- Bionic Commando
- Final Fight
- Forgotten Worlds
- Section Z
- Legendary Wings
- Trojan
All of this in one disc, is amazing when you take into consideration that they’re arcade ports, no changes, no stripping down, nothing. At E3, Capcom had some suprising things:
Firstly, the Capcom Classics demos was playable on the show floor. Secondly, the Capcom booth had arcade machines, yes, the original arcade machines that you came to play and love. These arcade machines required you to obtain a token; which I did during my play through Devil Kings (Devil May Cry 3 meets Dynasty Warriors). I played Final Fight, exactly as I remember it. Kicking some asses on a quest to rescue the mayor’s daughter. I was surprised to see the arcades on the show floor, because I didn’t expect Capcom to have them there. As usual, the Street Fighter arcade machines were crowded just like back in the 1990’s when Street Fighter II, and Mortal Kombat II was popular. Good to have that nostalgic feeling again.
So, once done with Final Fight (I was only given one token, but that’s okay, there were the Capcom Classics demos, anyway). I played several times with Street Figher II Turbo, from what I played, everything is intact. EVERYTHING. No slowdown, no glitches (unless you’re talking about those famous glitches), everything feels responsive, the controls feel comfortable, you won’t even complain or notice.
The graphics, are as vibrant as the originals, no letterboxes here, NONE. The reason I mention this, is because Sonic Mega Collection series of ports contained them. No Anti-Aliasing unlike Mega Man Anniversay Collection. The sound are as loud and as crisp as the arcade originals.
The collection feels like one of those arcade machines where it allows you to choose your games, unlike the Mega Man Anniversary Collection navigation, which by the way, was a great thing. I wish Capcom did something similar with Capcom Classics, not with Mega Man, but rather with a game famous enough to walk you through the legacy of Capcom.
So, I guess that means that Xbox owners will turn their TV’s, or HDTV’s into their personal arcade this Fall.
