25 to Life come in the wake of the popularity of ultra-violent crime games, and this is just one of those games. This game still has a lot to prove to me, especially since I wasn’t really all that impressed with it in any aspect, and so far just seems like something that would make for an ok experience that you would rent. You can battle up to 16 players online, choosing between cops, or criminals. It gives you an interesting twist, so you will have totally different objectives depending on which you choose from.
What I played at E3 was set in an area where there was all kinds of stuff going on outside and in doors. You have a wide variety of weapons to choose from on both sides, from the lethal weapons of pistols, shotguns to the non-lethal weapons like tasers and beanbag launchers. You also have machine guns, Uzis, and so on, but certain weapons have different kinds of accuracy, or allow you a certain kind accuracy. The game didn’t really play like anything new, as it was basically run around and kill each other. The way the game works though, it tries to make you bring down bad guys in a honest way, and encourages the bad guys to act like bad guys. At the same time though there will be characters in the game that you shouldn’t shoot at, and the game will encourage you not to shoot at them of course.
The developer promises there to be a pretty good campaign mode completely with twists, turns, a highly interactive urban environment delivering realistic gameplay and more. There is going to be a stealth element to it, that if a car alarm goes off or dogs start barking, people will find you sneaking around but we will see how that pans out. The sound in the game features a lot of hip-hop beats from today’s most popular rap artist, as well as a few you might have never heard of. Over all, the soundtrack should at least be fairly good, but you will also have the option to have custom soundtracks. The visuals in the game seemed to be lacking a bit of something, but it could also be in the stage where they are finishing up. Another kink in the visuals seemed to be the framerate, which would drop slightly every so often in your busy surroundings. Your character is customizable, and you are able to change the look of the player with different clothes, hair styles, and so on.
25 to Life is looking to be an average online shooter with a good guy vs. bad guy type twist at this point. We will give you our full review of the game when it is released later this summer.
