Good: 48 individual character stories! Guitar solos actually pretty cool!
Bad: Still a bit repetitive...

Dynasty Warriors 5
Koei has returned yet again with another installment into the Dynasty Warriors franchise with DW5. Now with 48 completely different stories, find out why this is by far the best Dynasty Warriors game ever.

What’s the only real, major issue with any DW game thus including DW5? Repetition. The gameplay for each character is basically the same and follows the same exact pattern in the method of their attacks and maneuvers. However, DW5 very slightly improves on this factor by adding even more character unique abilities and most obviously the story for each and every character. The repetition problem still greatly exists, but it has been worked on and has slightly improved over the last DW game.

Graphics
Nothing too special to comment or not comment about when it comes to the graphics. Dynasty Warriors has basically had the same graphical engine ever since DW2 but KOEI has just greatly improved it over the years. The in-game graphics are good but they could be better. The movie graphics are amazing and are quite a sight to see. The only thing I would really have to say about DW5’s graphics are that every one and a while there will be so much going on on-screen at once, that you will notice a bit of lag and slow-mo time that oddly helps you with your coordination but in reality just sucks. Oddly enough, DW5 is capable of having twice as many enemies/characters on screen at once that DW4 was capable of, yet, as stated, every so often you will some hiccups like that.

Sound
Do you like electric guitar solos? Than do I have the game for you! All Dynasty Warriors games have always had their trademark guitar solos during battles and for the most part are usually very good. Overall the soundtrack is sort of mixed between rock/guitar solos and the stereotypical “old” Chinese music you would expect to hear, which is spread out heavily throughout the battles and even into the menus. My particularly favorite track is the background music for the level “Bai Di Castle”. The voice acting is getting better and better with each entry into the series and thus far, DW5 tops them all by having the best voice acting yet. Each of the 48 main characters all have completely different voices, but the lower ranked Generals that are non-playable almost always have the same voice and even the same body and look to each and every one of them.

I really do believe that this game definitely deserves this ranking because you really just have to play it to truly understand just how good it is. The repetitive, but classic Dynasty Warriors gameplay is still perfectly intact and actually just a bit better than previous titles easily making this the best Dynasty Warriors game to date. With 48 playable characters and individual stories, classic gameplay, tolerable guitar solos mixed with ancient Chinese beats, and a replay value that will have you playing this game for days, maybe even weeks, on end; Dynasty Warriors 5 is definitely worth a look into by action fans and every gamer alike.
