5. Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory (9.9/10)
Publisher: UbiSoft
Developer: UbiSoft Montreal
Why it made the cut: You might be asking why is it so low on the list if it is a 9.9/10 for the review? Well while we certainly aren’t detracting our score, the game has a sense of depth and challenge that doesn’t make it quite that accessible, and there are just so many games that have new and different experiences on the list above that knock it down just slightly. With that said, Chaos Theory is without a doubt the best looking game Xbox has ever seen. It has extremely well done shadows, lighting, and the animations of the models are just fantastic. The game has you hiding in shadows in every possible way, with new weapons, ways to hide, and tactics to keep you going. The single player is very enthralling, and has enough to do that it helps train you for the real meat of the game—multiplayer. Combined with the inventive co-op missions, the co-op versus play, and the fact that you have two types of person to play, with two different ways of playing, the game is extremely interesting, making it the best stealth-action title available on the Xbox yet.

4. Forza Motorsport (10/10)
Publisher: Microsoft Game Studios
Developer: Microsoft Game Studios
Why it made the cut: It’s the game that overthrew the king of all racing sims, Gran Turismo with critics and Xbox gamers alike. It is the only other game other than Halo 2 to earn a 10/10 by Xbox Evolved, but due to the games extremely steep learning curve, and the advent of Xbox 360, it gets dropped down just very slightly. Microsoft did the impossible, not only did they put out a superior game on their first spin around the track they did it in a big way that will force every other racer hoping to compete to evolve in more ways then one. This is the racing game to own, whether you’re a fan of Sims or not you really need to pick this one up because it offers something for everyone. NFSU fans will love the custom cars and GT4 fans will love how much more there is to tweak as well as the far superior AI and physics.

3. Call of Duty 2 (8.9/10)
Publisher: Activision
Developer: Infinity Ward
Why it made the cut: Call of Duty 2 provided an experience unlike any other: it put you in the shoes of a World War II soldier. And while many games do the same thing, CoD2 stands apart by
providing you with an unparalleled sense of realism that you truly are on the battlefield. Assuming the role of four different soldiers, you’ll follow their story as they overcome overwhelming odds across Europe, Africa and Russia. This is the definitive WWII shooter on any system.

2. Condemned Criminal Origins (8.5)
Publisher: Sega
Developer: Monolith Games
Why it made the cut: Condemned was one of those few gems this year that was truly a surprise. A lot of the games on this list you could tell were going to be good from the start, but this game snuck up on us. It takes survival-horror to a completely new level setting the bar. I, and others watching my play literally screamed, and covered their eyes as we traversed through the dark corridors, finding whatever is lying around to defend ourselves from monstrous enemies, and bums. Try going through a blood soaked shower, with children laughing hysterically but not to be seen anywhere, only to come to a mysterious figure that pulverizes you and tell me you don’t get scared. I double-dog dare you.
