Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter Review

G.R.A.W. has finally made its way on to the Xbox 360. The title packs tons of the tactical action and urban warfare you know and love, but does it live up to it's expectations?

You’ll be in control of three teammates, a chopper, a tank and a drone for several of the missions. The drone is used to scout the map out ahead of you to indicate where enemy resides. The tank is technically on a rail – it can only move back and forward. While the tank is limited in function, its use is often helpful to advance on the battlefield without any firing upon the squad. The helicopter will aide in the large firefights to eliminate the opposition without much of a fight. While it dishes out the punishment in large quantities, it will go down easily if it is fired upon by too many units. The three teammates in your squad is a whole different ball game.
You control the squad as if they were one single unit. You can select which three teammates you want when you are able to find rally points. You can select three different units to fill up your squad. There’s a grenadier that will be your heavy/tank-killer support. The rifleman is great for firefights and excellent with accuracy. Then there are the marksmen which will be great for long range with a sniper in hand. The squad is literally a mixed bag with reaction and their A.I. You control the squad with the D-Pad and often times there will be mayhem with how it all works out.
One of the toughest moments early in the game.
The D-Pad isn’t necessarily great for the direction of the squad. The Xbox 360 controller D-Pad is all connected so if you are in a hurry and try to press up to select the spot on the map to guide your teammates, you may accidentally get them killed as you’ll tell them stand follow you instead. When you do finally hit the button right, you’ll notice that only two follow the orders while another lags behind. Not sure why but this often happened to me. When everything goes perfect, it will become noticeable that it was something you didn’t want to happen in the first place. Directing the team to lean against the wall to fire upon the enemies across the street may turn out bad as they won’t lean around the corner and will face in the wrong direction. The AI is a mixed bag in every mission and I hope Ubisoft puts a little more time in the AI with there next big game, Splinter Cell: Double Agent or even Rainbow Six: Las Vegas.
They enhanced it over the last four months to put forth one of the best 360 games at this point.
The graphics with Ghost Recon Advance Warfighter are beautiful. You won’t find a more impressive 360 game at this moment with graphics. Every building is detailed with brilliant textures and the windows shine as the sun hits off them. The character models are excellent and couldn’t be any better at this point in time of the release. All of models have great reaction with their animations. Try diving once, it’s a fun trick that I found nice to play around with and have a friend watch through his screen. The effects are even better than Call of Duty 2 with smoke grenades, explosions and even a little blood. The graphics are so real that it may even cost you a death or two. The sun will shine through your scope of the gun and will blind you for a second or two. Those two seconds could cost you an untimely death as the enemy gains the upper hand.
