Forza Motorsport 2
|
|
The newest title for the Xbox 360, Forza Motorsport 2 is here, and started it engines. Forza Motorsport 2 hits 6 gear, and turned the tables on simulation racing.

Trying to figure out the maps is not easy, even though there are a dismal twelve tracks to play with. With each track provides a different variation to it, not including driving it in reverse. Career Mode as a whole provides countless hours of gameplay. Unlocking new cars along with manufacturer reputation, which gives discounts to parts of your vehicle. Career mode provides a good enough challenge, but it can get repetitive with the number of laps to complete a course. An option to lose points to shorten up the laps would have been great. Going around a map eight times over the same landscape can be tedious to say the least.
This is not helped by the fact that the graphics of Forza Motorsport 2 is overall plain and at times lifeless. Don't get me wrong, there are some extravagant sceneries while playing but doesn't add to the experience while driving. The graphics in general does not seem to meet up to it potential, and left disappointed at the outcome. Also, it does not help that you can't have a dashboard view inside your car while driving. This just counter acts the realism you're supposed to feel while driving a simulation racing game.
Vrooom!!
However, the two parts that stands out in the Forza series is the ability to design your own car and the damage system. These two parts are what make Forza Motorsport 2 worthwhile, and not a rental. Painting your car with a Photoshop-like palette system gives your car it's own personality. Just seeing black, blue, and white paint on each car would of made Forza Motorsport 2 an ordinary racer. Putting your special added touch to a well-tuned car can form your identity. You can also post your car designs online by the Forza snapped photo option to share it with the community. If your not good at painting your own car, then you can choose an already designed car someone made in the Forza Auction House. Inflation has yet to hit the Auction house, so most cars in the Auction House comes for a reasonable price. The Auction House is just one part of an overall enjoyable online experience. You could potentially do the entire Career Mode online against human opponents, and you can of course choice to race against others in the cars you spent countless hours customizing and tweaking. The game borrows a lot from Xbox 360’s other flagship racing title, Project Gotham Racing 3 and allows you to compare your scores and lap times across all parts of the game, and you can also sign up for tournaments. You can check out all your stats on the game, or you can go to ForzaMotorsport.net and plan tournaments against others while checking out the shots you took of your cars.
The Damage System in Forza Motorsport 2 even though generic provides an added realism, while driving. It's generic because all the damage models to your car looks the same, but can easily be overlooked. The Damage System punishes the sloppy drivers who goes 130mph in a sharp turn, and forces them to correct their mistake if they want to ever win a race. These two features make Forza a fun, challenging simulation which only the Forza Motorsport has tried.
Something that needs to be addressed though is the soundtrack chosen for Forza Motorsport 2. The songs chosen can be utterly annoying, but thankfully you can add your own custom soundtrack over it. The audio used for racing it nevertheless satisfying, but I suggest you turn down the tire noise since it’s a bit annoying.

Forza Motosport 2 is a well polished game with little flaws. Improvement to the graphics, including a dashboard view would had made this game superb, but fell short in that department. Other than that, Forza Motorsport 2 is a great title becoming the third fastest-selling Xbox 360 title released so far, and fourth fastest selling title on any platform this year (according to gameindustry.biz). For those hardcore car enthusiast it's a must buy, but for the laid back casual fans, I would suggest renting it beforehand. It is a must buy in my book, and the numerous cars, tuning, and single player itself is hours of fun (sometimes tedious) gameplay.
