Dragonball Z Burst Limit Review

I review the highly anticipated DBZ Game, Burst Limit. The game captures the beautiful essence of the DBZ story up to the Cell Saga in all its HD glory as it debuts on the Xbox 360 for the first time.

Also new to the gameplay is a new system which may seem cool to some and a nuisance to others is the Drama system. Drama Pieces help give each character a little more personality, while also supplying fights with comeback moments or tide-turning interference maneuvers by other characters. They can be annoying to some as it interrupts the gameplay for a non skipable cutscene, while others will enjoy the new feeling of battle. Luckily, it can be turned off, but in Z Chronicles its mandatory.
The graphics are also a thing of beauty in HD and even standard picture. They’re so smooth. The cel shading is top notch, coming as closer to the show like never before, and even surpassing it in visual effects. There’s nice little blur effects while moving to even ante up the glory of HD DBZ characters.
The game offers 5 playable game modes including the chance to experience the story mode in what they call Z Chronicles ranging from the Saiyan Saga up to the Cell Saga. The first selection is Goku vs. Radditz. Once the loading is out the way, you get a nice little cutscene any DBZ fan will recognize then BAM, it almost thrusts you into combat. Your only defense is to now thrust your way into combat and use the combos you’ve learned to see your way to victory. In case you forgot though, there is a move list in the pause menu; still can’t beat a solid tutorial though.
To keep up with the new, there is now online battles (including offline versus), a first for the Budokai style series. Online is straight 1 on 1 hot anime action for online friends and components featuring a ranked mode too. Other modes include Trail, Training, and Tutorial.

This game definitely is a jump from all previous DBZ games and may even be the best to date. Any hardcore fan will be pleased while less mediocre ones might be turned off by the low number character count (21 in all excluding transformations) and early stop in the DBZ story. Also there are only a handful of stages, which for some may seem weird as Dimps’ previous Budokai 3, was so jam packed with content. But throwing in a solid online mode should be more than enough for all to enjoy for months to come.
