Unreal Tournament 3 Review
Xbox 360 gamers rejoice…Unreal Tournament has finally made its way to the Xbox 360. The saying, good things come to that that wait, applies to this game as the Xbox 360 version has been blessed with added levels, modes and content.

Instant Action allows you to jump right into the action against advanced, computer-controlled Bots. For all those players who don’t have Xbox Live or even Xbox Live Gold, Bots are always a good thing. Yeah, Bots can never replace the fun and competition you’ll get from actual human players but it sure comes damn close if played on higher skill levels. Here you have the usual Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Capture the Flag and three other modes. Vehicle Capture the Flag is a team-based CTF….well, with vehicles. Go figure. Warfare is a strategic, moving-battlefield team game where the objective is to destroy the enemy’s Power Core by linking it though control points called Nodes. Once a link is established, the enemy Power Core shield drops and it becomes vulnerable to an attack. Finally there’s Duel, a basic one-against-one test of Deathmatch skill.

Online Multiplayer connects players to Xbox Live where gamers can go to test their skill against the best of the best in ranked and unranked games and even bring a buddy online on the same console for some online split-screen action. There’s Quick match, Custom Match and Host Match. All the modes found in Instant Action are the exact same online so it’s a nice idea to get some practice in offline if one chooses to. Once a connection to a chosen sever is established all hell turns loose. It’s a battlefield out there and you’re the green thump if you don’t act fast. The game as smooth as it does offline with the occasional lag hick-ups if there are connection issues. Sadly, there’s no support for a mouse and keyboard on the Xbox 360 version so you’re stuck with the controller we’ve all come to love. For past UT players on PC, you can indeed notice it’s a bit slower than what you’d expect. So that’s something to think about when choosing an appropriate platform to play the game to play on.

Unreal Tournament 3 is a great addition to the UT series and runs very well on the Xbox 360. Brought with a very lackluster story mode and a slowed down pace some veteran UT players may notice may face some to turn the other cheek. But if not, the game is very good and what it’s known for and that’s the crazy action we love. Thanks to the Unreal Engine 3, the game is amazing on the Xbox 360. Fans will be please indeed. There’s even an included Gears of War 2 video documentary showing off of what’s to be November’s smash hit. Sadly, the only thing that’s a miss is that Xbox 360 gamers will never know the joy of modded content in the game.
