The weapons are made even more useful with a stasis power. The power gives you the ability to freeze your enemies, and it is used on various environmental obstacles and puzzles throughout the ship. It is a power you will use a lot also, as there are many times that you will be sealed off in a room for a short period of time with wave after wave of these disgusting creatures coming at you. So when a pile of them is sprinting towards you, using stasis slows them down to a crawl. Then pulling out your might force gun, and using its secondary fire will shoot concentrated force right into the middle of them. When they are unfroze, the force ball makes complete contact and sends them flying, with gushes of blood and limbs flying all over like someone just opened up a blender on high speed. Just the first time you do that, will have you cracking up laughing in an otherwise suspenseful title.
Like any survival-horror game, there are plenty of puzzles in the mix to help you get through each level and on the tram. The tram is how you will get from area to area, and is a nice way to help separate each of the twelve levels throughout. Typically the puzzles involve you using your stasis ability to slow something down, and then move it around with a Kinesis power. The Kinesis power essentially allows you to lift up various objects, plug batteries into doors to unlock them, and you can pick up explosive materials and throw them at monsters.
Woo! Let’ party!
You are almost never lost in the game, which is good helping it give a good fast paced feel thanks to pressing in the right analog and being able to see a line that gives you an idea of where your next objective. Still it can be misleading. One such instance has you in a room with an asteroid tethered to the ship for mining purposes. In this room there is zero gravity, so you have the ability to zero-G jump. It is absolutely incredible and it captures the sense of disorientation one may have if they were upside down on a ceiling in space. The line directs you to zero-G jump onto the asteroid and plant a beacon, yet you keep getting chopped up by the tethers holding it down as they isolate around the asteroid. It isn’t until you find a very vague image of the asteroid that you realize you have to traverse to outside the confines of oxygen and on the other side of the asteroid into open space.
When you are in space, a little meter pops up on your back telling you how much time you have before you run out of oxygen in your suit. This is made especially suspenseful when their are aliens crawling along the ship trying to kill you, and Isaac gasps for air to indicate it made it past a certain amount of seconds. Thankfully you can fill up on air with cans of air, but combing puzzles, aliens, Z-jumping, and the muffled sounds in the vacuum of space will have you at the edge of your seat.
