There has been a problem with console gaming, and that is getting people too actually game online. Sure you have Halo 2, but you can’t just rely on first-person shooters. David Jones, creator of the original GTA franchise and head of Real Time Worlds Ltd. just might have the answer for us. The game is APB, and will be a console exclusive to the Xbox 360 coming way of publisher Webzen and developer Real Time Worlds. The game will take full advantage of the Xbox 360 in every aspect, from the hardware’s technical abilities to the structure of Xbox Live.
At this point very little is known, but there will probably be a crime filled, gang controlled, cop patrolling vibe to the title. There is no leveling-up at all, and people will be able to choose character appearances, attitudes, music preferences, and more. You can get different kinds of vehicles, weapons, and so on. So far at this point it is sounding like a very expansive Grand Theft Auto, but that really isn’t a bad thing.
The team working on the game has worked on games like GTA, Lemmings, Donkey Kong Country, Wipeout, and a lot of other really famous and well received titles. There are still a lot of questions to be answered though. Is this like GTA online? Will there be a monthly fee? How many can play at a time? What are the classes of people? What are the weapons? How expansive are the environments? The bad news is the game isn’t set to be released until 2008 so we still have quite a ways to go. By then it is very possible we might see similar, even better games. Until then, we probably won’t even see anymore details on the title until E3 2006, or more likely won’t know a whole lot about it until E3 2007.
