Battlestar Galactica is of course based off of the Sci-Fi Channel original series of the same name, taking some of the episodes more memorable spacecraft dogfights along with a few originals, and turning them into a shooter. The game looks nice, sounds decent, but the uninspired gameplay and incredibly short campaign, even by Live Arcade standards makes the title fall short.
There are ten levels in all and even if you aren’t all that great at shooters, you will probably breeze through them all on the lower or mid difficulty level in about four hours or less. There are new objectives in each level, for example one you must protect the Galactica ship, if you don’t the mission fails, although typically if there is nothing like that in the level, you can go on forever, dying as many times as you like, with a seemingly endless supply of high-charged torpedo weapons that will tear through other warring craft in one or two shots. Their would be a challenge to it, if not for the fact that the wonderfully detailed area you are battling in, things could actually damage you as they blew into your craft.
There is also online multiplayer with up to seven others, three different modes in all. They range from seeing who can kill the most to whom can take the most points on the map. It will extend the gameplay if only slightly, along with the Achievements you may be able to squeeze six hours of game time out of Battle star Galactica, but even that may be asking for too much.

Battlestar Galactica is horrendously easy, probably even for the causal gamers out there, but if you are a fan of the series, chances are you will like shooters like this anyways and this is a must buy for you. Otherwise, other players won’t really care about the fact that the battles in the campaign are based off of the show, nor care that “Frak” is some kind of Sci-Fi cuss word. At 800 Points or ten bucks it is really hard to recommend this game, especially when there are better XBLA titles that just released and are coming out later, not to mention the bevy of retail titles this holiday that will make you want to pass this up.
