How to Avoid Fallout 3 From Locking Up
So some of you may have seen this coming, but much like Oblivion, Fallout 3 will lock up from time to time. Check our article inside for a solution to this incredibly annoying problem.

October 28, 2008

So you finally killed a bunch of mutants, you grabbed the satellite dish for Mad Dog, and what do you know? The game locks up, and the only way to get out of it is by shutting your Xbox 360 completely off! This is an incredibly annoying problem, and it actually happened to me three different times as I detailed in my review of Fallout 3. The same problems were prevalant in Bethsoft's Oblivion although thankfully it isn't quite as bad in Fallout 3.

So how do you fix this? Bethesda Softworks VP of Marketing and Fallout 3 product manager Pete Hines says its as simple as clearing your Xbox 360's cache, and here is how you do it:

-Go to the Xbox Dashboard, select the System Blade, and select Memory.
-Highlight the HD symbol and press Y.
- Press X, X, Left Bumper, Right Bumper, X, X.

The Dashboard will confirm that you want to do "System Maintenance" on the Xbox 360.

This can happen especially if you have a lot of games, content on your Xbox 360, you delete a lot of things on the Xbox 360, and so on. The only bad side effect of this is it will mean when you start up a game with System Updates, you will have to reinstall them before proceeding while connected to Xbox Live. Another solution to the problem, is simply save often and especially after tougher points in the game. Hopefully this is helpful to some of you, and you enjoy the otherwise incredible experience!
