Quite possibly the most anticipated Xbox 360 game this year is back with more chainsaw action, big explosions and yes the fabled Burmak!

What is probably no surprise to most gamers; Epic Games and Microsoft have announced that Gears of War 2 will be coming exclusively to Xbox 360 November of this year. After the short trailer that we have all seen all over the net, Xbox Live, and now Xbox Evolved’s YouTube, lead designer for the GoW series, Cliff Bleszinski stepped up to the stage at Game Developers Conference 2008 to make it completely official. Something else that was shown off besides GoW2 was an updated version of the Unreal Engine 3, the technology behind many games on Xbox 360 including Gears of War. In the demo improvements to the water, lighting, flesh, and more were shown. Specifically what seems to be the entire buzz was a demo of a Locust horde with literally hundreds of Locust running around in game was demonstrated. This not only means that GoW2 will look good, but it will probably be one of the best, if not the best looking title on Xbox 360 when it hits.
If Halo was “just the beginning” for the Halo universe, just as the first GoW was for the GoW universe, then GoW2 will be incredible. In the trailer, you can hear Dominic, Marcus Fenix’s close confidant and wartime buddy asking for Marcus to find a Maria, presumably his wife or his child. It must be an important aspect of the storyline in the game for them to mention it in such a brief trailer. The first title’s campaign was pretty lacking in terms of story, especially considering they have the help of Halo novel writer Eric Nylund, so one can only imagine what unanswered questions will be answered. Why did Marcus’s father have a map of the Locust horde tunnels, and what does it have to do with him?
Undoubtedly, we will see the Locust Queen make a more prominent role and become the main antagonist. The Locust hordes will burrow up to the surface once again. Using the new engine technology, it wouldn’t be surprising to see an epic battle between man and beast, hopefully with a Burmak or two thrown into the mix to make up for the fact that it wasn’t until the PC version of GoW until we saw one.
It has been confirmed that Epic Games will concentrate quite a bit more on the multiplayer, whereas they have admitted that the first game it wasn’t one of their biggest priorities. In terms of gameplay, the chainsaw action is going through a bit of an overhaul. Now, instead of one of the players being sawed down because the other began to saw a half-second before you had a chance to rev your own up, you will duel with the saws. It is unclear how one or the other will ultimately overcome the other, but one could imagine it would have to do with press a button rapidly until the other is cut down. You will also be able to saw your foes from behind now. There are few details than that, so until Xbox Evolved gets more information, please enjoy the video on our YouTube, or download a wallpaper for the game below!
