Gears of War 2: Dark Corners Review
As usual practice, Epic Games continues to support their games months after releasing. The latest offering is the All Fronts Collection/Dark Corners DLC which adds a whopping amount of maps and a new deleted story chapter.

Epic Games may have started a trend with the new Dark Corners DLC for Gears of War 2. What may be the big selling point and what has most people interested is the fact that they have added a deleted campaign chapter called Road to Ruin. Never before, at least to my remembrance, has there been DLC to actually add to a first-person/third-person shooter’s campaign. Dark Corners not only adds that deleted level, but also boosts the already incredible count of Gears of War 2 multiplayer maps up with seven new maps, one of which is a classic remake. I’ll start of this review with the Road to Ruin chapter.

Road to Ruin takes place during Act 4 of the game after…well if you played the game youknow what happens. For the sake of those who have not played the game yet, I will leave this spoiler-free. Marcus and Dom are outside Nexus, the Locust capital, where they have two options of entering guns blazing or actually using stealth with Theron Locust armor to get by.

The stealth option doesn’t work very well. It’s very out of place, especially in a game like Gears of War. There is nothing dynamic to it to compared to other stealth games like Splinter Cell. All you do is follow Dom and keep out of Locust sights. If they get a sniff of you, literally, you’re spotted and all goes out the window. Even then, halfway through the level , you revert to guns blazing, regardless if you’ve been seen or not.

Ultimately, this chapter adds nothing exciting or important to the story and it’s a real no-brainer why this was material deleted. All you do is go through the level either guns blazing or stealth, meet a familiar character from Gears 1 and then it’s all over before you get going. If your main goal of buying Dark Corners is just for this deleted scene, you’re going to be very disappointed. Even for a Gears chapter, which tend to last roughly about 30 – 45 minutes, this only lasts on average 25 minutes with that being for the guns blazing option; on stealth, it’s even shorter.
