Lost Planet 2 Hands-on
Xbox Evolved goes hands-on with the anticipated third person shooter. Ready for take off?

Is it just me, or is this planet hot?

Lost Planet 2 takes place ten years after the first game. You are once again in E.D.N. III, but not in the same place you were in the first game. There’s a strong surge of change for this Lost Planet because E.D.N. III is now defrosting, revealing new locales like jungles. You will be playing as many different types of characters such as pirates. It will give you a new perspective of the groups in the game, and the events that will occur intertwining every one of the characters stories.

Just like the original game, there is plenty to do in multiplayer, and this time around you can do four-player co-op throughout all the missions, as well as a new versus mode.

You will be able to customize your character and weapons. The character customization system is so robust that you will be able to customize pretty much everything – you can choose between male or female, you can tweak the physique of the character and even how they react to certain things by way of custom emoticons.

You will have two weapon “slots” available when you play through Lost Planet. Each slot is left or right hand weaponry – your right hand will have these assault classes: standard, short, long, attack, and support. While your left hand will have these grenade classes: normal, gum, disk release, and support. You will also be able to use a handgun for close-range battles, and a gunsword for melee situations. You will be able to do victory dances, waving and other kinds of actions as a way to communicate with others in your team or those around you.

There's a war on this Lost Planet!

Last month I had a chance to check out the co-op mode. In stark contrast to the chilly environments in the first game, the level I played on was a melted canyon. You are stranded in a dark world with dark skies, with three other players, and a big bad lizard. The first thing you will notice about the game is the size of the level. The vast canyon has many different environmental objects like trees, caves to go through, to hide in, and water.
