Naruto: The Broken Bond Impressions
His name is Naruto Uzumaki and he wants you to play his newest game Naruto TBB. Should we "believe it" that this title can deliver or did Ubisoft preformed genjustju on us. Find out if Naruto TBB has enough charka to perform a miracle in our preview!

Ok so after playing Naruto The Broken Bond demo, you can't help but to compare it to Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm for the PS3. Comparing the two titles, you can tell how graphically inferior Naruto TBB is to it. So for most of us Naruto fans out there, the expectation level for this title was pretty low. Playing it on the other hand shows that this title shows some promise but still unsure whether it can deliver on it.

The demo goes through two parts of the Naruto series; Beginning of Sasuke retrieval and the Third Hokage Hiruzen Sarutobi going against Orochimaru. The story is nothing we haven't seen before from the anime. What helps is the optional Japanese voice overs which is definitely better than the horrific English voice overs. If I had to hear the english Naruto say “believe it” during the game, I would automatically puke in disgust.

The animation style of Naruto: TBB is similar towards a flash base type of style rather then simulating the art style we see in the anime. It was obviously a design choice to do this but it wasn't the best one. It makes the game feel subpar compared to Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm. But you can still see Ubisoft Montreal getting the most of out of this game. The game doesn't look that bad but we all just want anime type visuals when playing.

The game itself is essentially a adventure/platformer mixed in with a fighting game. The puzzles are way to simplistic shown in this demo. The exploring part just seems to be just a filler to progress till the main fights of the game. Ubisoft Montreal tries it best to make sure each character available has a role in the game but you can just use Naruto to do everything in the demo. Hopefully some of the other character abilities will be utilize in the full release of the game instead of Naruto doing all the handy work.

The fighting portion of the game is quite fun with a lengthy combo system. Your special charka moves are dependent in executing the biggest combos to build up your justju meter. Every time your bar goes through a section, it allows for more advance charka justju moves. Once the justju is performed, it goes into quick time events in remembering button combos to perform certain parts of the justju move. Some charka moves has different affects like confusion but doing the character's signature moves for severe damage is basically the extent of it.

To make sure you don't go charka spamming, the implementation of charka bars was put in place. Every attempt to perform a charka move equals to losing a certain amount of charka bars. If you don't pull it off then you still lose some charka and have to wait for it to regenerate. This system works great considering it's not going to allow charka spamming and more tetjustu (hand to hand) fighting.

Naruto The Broken Bond has as many ups as it does downs. This game isn't going to blow you away in any department but provide you a fun, casual Naruto experience. It definitely has room for improvement but there is only so much you can do with this type of game. If your able to look pass all that then it definitely worth a try with the inclusion of online multiplayer in the retail version. If your still undecided whether to buy this game then wait for Xbox Evolved's Naruto The Broken Bond review coming on November 18th.
