The conference call was held with:
Ben Bishop - Producer, Visual Concepts
Scott Krager - Project Manager, Kush Games
Colin O'Hara - Lead Designer, Kush Games
Xbox Evolved will have a better report, and preview of NHL2K8 soon, until then here are just some of the highlights:
-The visuals have improved, with the new more form fitting jerseys the NHL is using this year not really effecting physics at all.
-The developers really seem to like the goalies, which act more dynamic now, as well as the all-new Pro Stick, which compliments the goalies. Prostick gives you all kinds of new control, with a complete 360 degree of stick control.
-On the console side of things, a NHL2K Wii title is a possibility in the future, especially because of Wii’s popularity. With regards to developing, the team claims to not have been having a hard time developing multiplatform unlike their competition, with all versions staying at 60 frames per second despite visual upgrades.
-The only real advantage the PS3 version seems to have is 6v6 play (with six controllers on one console!) to Xbox 360’s 3v3. Other than that, the developers seem to prefer Xbox Live over PS3’s online environment, at least that was the feeling I got, with Xbox 360 specific features such as saving highlight reels to Xbox Live for sharing purposes.
-A lot of talk about how to keep the fun in the game but keep in realistic. Things such as fighting have been toned down to reflect real changes in the NHL, more realistic game over all.
-Real competition for developers isn’t EA, but keeping up with the NHL, their standards, and fan’s standards.
Xbox Evolved will have more on NHL2K8 soon.
