I have played Smash TV several times before in the arcade and Midway’s compilation packs, and one thing that always had me about the title is that it is a lot like the movie The Running Man where Arnold Schwarzenegger has to run through all these obstacles and kill people for the pleasure of television viewers. This one uses the simple controls of the left stick controls your person and the right shoots. You run over upgrades and you get grenade launchers and guns that spray fire in three different directions. You also run over cash and prizes the get your score up even better. What makes this the best version of the game yet though is the fact that you can play online through co-op and see your score on Xbox Live scoreboard.
The game is basically you going through rooms where bad guys spill out, shoot at you, lay down bombs, and must be dodged and shot. It gets pretty hectic, and the fact that some enemies take long to kill than others puts even more difficulty on top of the already difficult title. Despite the difficulty you can get as many lives as you want which is good, especially since most newcomers probably won’t even get past the first boss without seeing at least one Game Over screen. With Live play you can go on forever with a friend, as long as at least one of you is alive at any given moment. This game isn’t for everyone, but if you are truly a hardcore Smash fan, the Xbox 360 Achievements will keep you going as they aren’t quite that easy to get in many cases. The rest of the game is just like the arcade classic, with the visuals and sound remaining unchanged. For purist that is just fine, but if you were wanting to see something a bit more for the 400 points you spend on the game, or five bucks you are out of luck.

Smash TV is a great game that is extremely hardcore, and for only five bucks it is just cheap enough for newcomers try. If you want to see what the big boys played back in the day then you will definitely want to check this ode to “The Running Man” out.
