The DaVinci Code
In this belated review we give you our take on the game based loosely on both the blockbuster movie and best-selling novel. Check it out inside.

If you haven’t already played the game, and are a fan of the book and/or the movie, I will save you the trouble of taking my word for it when I say you should stay the hell away from this game. The game is developed by the Collective, which often has a hit and miss record, creating mostly games based off of hot properties and while these games usually don’t receive the best of ratings, most gamers still blindly buy them because of the name attached to them (Star Wars: Episode III anyone?). The game is a strange disjointment of The DaVinci Code story, puzzles, and boring combat. You play as the main characters Robert, and Sophie, both of which barely resemble their movie counterparts, but yet, the game still borrows ideas and plot from both the movie and book.

The game is about as fun as the recent Myst games and with that said, the puzzles, which can be great, aren’t made for the lowest common denominator, or use commonsense, but rather feels more like a game of Jeopardy in some instances. In that, it can be somewhat fun, and a great challenge, but it seems as if though the creators forgot that this game was meant for a much wider audience. Besides that it is an odd mixture of stealth, hiding around corners away from people, and strange combat. The strange system has you do button sequences in order to get rid of an enemy, but the another may come in, and it makes it all the much harder.

Visually the game is anything but impressive, looking incredibly rushed, and with very bad animations. The characters you play them look nothing like the hard-hitting stars from the movies making it even less engaging to fans.

If you are one of those people out there that was looking for a reason to hate The DaVinci Code because everyone and there mother reads the book, or talks about the movie, this will definitely give you fuel for that hate fire, because as it stands, The DaVinci Code videogame is quite possibly one of the worst videogame movie adaptations out there.
