Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is proving to be a huge success with sales and among the critics. We here at Xe360 gave it a 9.7 out of a possible 10. It is the highest score for any Xbox 360 game at this current moment. Reviews are flowing in with positive feedback and praise for Bethesda’s beautiful baby they have created. It’s time to keep exploring the world of Tamriel and the Imperial Province known as Cyrodiil.
Today I will be covering houses you can purchase within all eight major Cyrodiil city, Hunting, and covering the mail I received on Vampires. That’s right, I received over 25 e-mails pertaining about my Vampire guide. Today I will cover all the questions asked to make sure everyone’s clear on being a Vampire. Hopefully it will help out the majority of the questions asked. First topic today though that will be covered is buying yourself a house in Oblivion.
In every city, there will be a house up for purchase. You’ll need to find the local ruler of the city, raiser his/her Disposition through persuasion/bribing, and then ask them about the subject “Buy a house in town.” It’s that simple right? Pretty much standard for six out of the eight cities – Skingrad and Anvil require a few tasks to acquire the house in their respective cities. I will rank each city on what I believe are the best houses up for purchase, their required tasks, who you need to talk to and how much it costs.
Buying a House
#1 Skingrad (Cost: 25,000 gold)
NPC: Hal-Liurz
Location: Rosethorn Hall manor house
Furnishing: Colovian Traders
Tasks: Mini-quests
- This manor house requires you to go through a pair of mini-quests to obtain the house fully. Instead of contacting the local ruler of Skingrad, Janus Hassildor, you’ll want to contact Hal-Liurz instead. He’ll end up referring you to Shum gro-Yarug, the orc butler of the manor. You’ll need to raise Shum’s Disposition to 70, need fame level of 15 and of course a lot of gold! When you close the deal, the current tenants will move out and you’ll move in without hassle. The great thing about the Skingrad house is that you’ll also acquire a maid with the purchase. She won’t be of much use until you begin to provide furnishings. You’ll need to pay her 150 gold and she’ll move into the cellar to take care of the place while you aren’t there. The other mini-quest outside of the maid and getting her to work is located in the top floor bedroom. You’ll need to find the “Long Forgotten Note” to kick-start the quest to find hidden treasure in the house but I will hold off on that until the next guide. E-mail me if you want full details on the hidden treasure.
#2 Chorrol (Cost: 20,000 gold)
NPC: Countess Arriana Valga
Location: Arborwatch stone house (next to Mage’s Guild)
Furnishings: Northern Goods & Trades
Tasks: Standard
- This is a standard purchase with no hang-ups. Find Arriana and raise her Disposition to 70. Beyond the Disposition, you’ll need a fame level of 13. After all that, the house will be yours for 20,000 gold. I particularly like the positioning next to the Mage’s Guild due to that’s my favorite guild so far.
#3 Bruma (Cost: 10,000 Gold)
NPC: Countess Narina Carvain
Location: Two-story log house in the north
Furnishings: Novaroma
Tasks: Standard
- This is one of my favorite houses due to the location. I absolutely love Bruma because of the snow and isolation from civilization of sorts. The castle there is humungous in stature so this place is ideal for me. It’s cheaper than Cheydinhal and it of course is a log house. You’ll want to raise the Countess’ Disposition to 60 and it will be yours.
