The Last Remnant Review
The Last Remnant has been found and I'm definitely disappointed. Find out why this Remnant wasn't what it was crack up to be in this review.

The Last Remnant is a story center on Rush Sykes and his sister Irina Sykes. Rush main goal is to protect her at all cost but its a lot more difficult then it seems. The Sykes Family has inherited a gift that allows them to control the Remnants which are powerful artifacts in their world. A sinister plot was planned to capture Irina and use her power to conquer the world. On this mission to save Irina you discover the evil plot of a new unmatchable foe called The Conqueror, the corruption within the Congress, ally with new friends to save Irina and discover her mystic powers.

The way the story is presented in the game feels like they are making it up as they go a long. At the beginning of the game you are looking at a flower and then find yourself in the middle of a battlefield. You begin to ask yourself "Who are these people, what is the main character doing, what the hell is going on?!?" The lack of details off bat creates a disconnect between the characters and creates confusion in not understanding the basic plot of the story. More of the plot is reveal as you progress but the game doesn't grasp your attention to bother wondering why anyone should care about Rush, his sister or the world in general.

Spoiler Alert. Badass Sword Fight. It all makes sense now...

The plot is non-existent till the end of disc one where everything magically comes together. It leaves off at a climax and with one of the most badass sword fighting scenes since Final Fantasy 8. Then when you enter disc two where you are met with disappointment as the story did not carry over that same intensity from the end of disc one. The story presentation was not well thought out at all and one of my major gripes with The Last Remnant.

Another problem is the cut scene animations used in The Last Remnant. There are important parts of the game that has the lowest quality of animation used to display their emotions. They show no emotion and replay the same body emotes while talking. The person who does the video editing must have fell asleep on the job because they stand looking at a person after they finish talking for about ten seconds creating an awkward feeling. Some of the dialogue requires them to show emotion to understand the basis of it. You have to look hard enough to tell that there is a love interest going on between some of the characters. If you cannot then the dialogue is going to seem awkward.

Other than the main story, you have side quests to pass the time. You go to a local bar in one of the neighboring cities and take on certain missions. The gifts for completing them can help you create some of the ultimate weapons in the game. There are enough side quests in the game to keep you busy to double the replay value of the game. Most of the ultimate weapons have to be forge by a blacksmith in town. Seeing all the cool, powerful weapons available to create definitely makes you want to go on a scavenger hunt to collect the different items necessary to have a better weapon.
