XE: Forum User “S-pac420” wants to know if you guy’s have fixed the Raw venue’s entrance rap titantrons from showing the wrestlers entrance video instead of the WWE logo that is shown during live broadcasts?
Bryan:The spinning RAW logo appears on the entrance ramp titantron during entrances in the RAW arena, while the Superstar’s titantron movie appears on the giant titantron above the entrance ramp.
XE: Forum user “masteratt” wants to know if there’s going to be a significant reason to actually play as a “Clean” wrestler in this years iteration, as compared to previous years where “Dirty” wrestlers have the benefit of both the “Clean” wrestlers stamina building methods, and the ability to use weapons?
Bryan:The clean/dirty designation and functionality featured in previous titles will not be carried over in WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2008. In keeping with current WWE programming, the whole idea of wrestling “clean” has been removed, while the ability to fight dirty has been absorbed into the all-new Superstar Fighting Styles gameplay feature. The Dirty fighting style will give players the ability to ignore rope break calls made by the referee, hide behind the referee, argue with the referee after slow pin fall counts and many other abilities. Now, more than ever, the differences between all styles of wrestling, beyond typical clean/dirty designations, are going to be greatly amplified.
XE: One of the main key additions to this year’s game is the addition of the ECW brand. ECW is known for its “Extreme Rules” match, and its matches that utilize weapons. One of my biggest wants for the series is weapon-orientated damage, where - for example- you place the chair on the ring and you do a Full Nelson slam onto the chair, a “clunk” sound would be heard and the chair would be visually affected by the slam on it. Past iterations of WWE SmackDown have allowed you to do this to Tables and Ladders, but will we be able to do this with chairs and other weapons now?
Bryan:WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2008 will feature a bevy of new weapon attacks. The Hardcore fighting style will allow Superstars to wedge chairs on the necks and ankles of their opponents, which can then be followed up with a sadistic stomp of the chair! The Hardcore fighting style will also give players the ability to perform the devastating conchairto maneuver. In addition to the aforementioned abilities, every Superstar on the roster will be able to wedge a chair in the corner turnbuckle and Irish whip an opponent, head first, into the steel chair. You’ll even be able to powerbomb an opponent on top of the steel steps!
XE: WWE Legends are one of the biggest fan favorite additions to the game. Can we be expecting some past ones to return, and will the addition of the ECW brand add some legends to the mix, or are you strictly looking towards the WWE/ WCW past legends and if so….Doink the Clown?
Bryan:The SmackDown vs. Raw series always ships with a stacked roster full of current WWE Superstars as well as Legends, and WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2008 is no exception to the rule. Fans will be pleased to learn that ECW Legends such as Tommy Dreamer and Terry Funk, just to name a few, will be featured in the game.
XE: The SmackDown series is known for its archaic animations and gameplay, which date back to Yuke’s “Toukon Retsudan” series for the original PlayStation, should we be expecting the same classic Yuke’s look and feel or will you be upping the ante in the animation department?
Bryan: WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2008 will mark the beginning stages of an animation overhaul. Navigational movements will steer clear of the mechanical movements and feet sliding found in past titles in favor of much more fluid and natural motions to create digitized Superstars who will animate and more closely resemble their real life counterparts found on WWE programming. Of course, basic navigational animations won’t be the only improvements made to the animation system. Fans can also expect to see newly animated grapple and strike attacks as well as a slew of other refinements. I give you my guarantee that WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2008 will be the best animated wrestling title ever released.
