I was given a message from a friend the other day regarding speculation that Microsoft will in fact be joining the Blu-Ray camp, and will be creating a Xbox 360 Blu-Ray Player add-on by the end of the year.
Upon researching the article of this rumors origin, at ITMedia with a translator, you will find that the article only mentions the Xbox 360 once, and that is referring to the sales of the system. The Blu-Ray or HD DVD camps have said nothing of the rumors as well.
The rumor indicates that Microsoft is in talks with Pioneer and/or Panasonic to bring a player to the system, but a Microsoft representative had this to say, “What you are seeing on message boards across the internet is nothing but people taking things out of context and taking something Peter Moore (VP Entertainment Division) said a year ago about the theoretical possible of a Blu-Ray player for Xbox 360 if there was demand and if HD DVD didn’t win.”
Currently the Sony PlayStation 3 is the only videogame console to offer a high-definition disc format out of the box, while Microsoft’s Xbox 360 only offers a HD DVD player add-on which can only be used for HD DVD movies.
