In all of the games that are basically top down shooters, and Tetris rip-offs there is very little on Xbox Live Arcade at this point that is at all original in its own right. Now while Zuma has of course been on PC before, those of you who have never even seen the game will be delightfully surprised by this title. The game is pretty simple to figure out. You have different kinds of spiraled paths in which multiple colored balls roll, down towards a hole or holes in the middle of the board. You have a little frog that receives a random color, and must aim and shoot them to connect with same colored balls, destroying those balls and slowing down the process of the balls rolling down to the hole. You have to hit to connect three or more, and sometimes you get bombs in the bunch that blow up other balls, which may be other colors. It does of course get more and more challenging as you continue onward, giving more complicated designs, creating more opportunities to do hit combos that have the game exclaim “Zuma!” at any given moment.
As you go through the simply game, simply rotating the frog in place, shooting at the strings of colored balls, you will get different speeds, and the once more circular patterns turn into zig-zagging patterns. Luckily eventually you get power-ups that slow the balls down even more, or make them go backwards. Each level is pretty exciting even if the beginning levels are fairly easy, but it gets a bit annoying that when you aim at one area behind a row of balls sometimes it doesn’t always connect like you want it to. The game is made more exciting by the very colorful Aztec themed visuals, and the music that goes along with it. If anything, the game doesn’t offer a terrible among of variety, as all you have really have is one main mode, survival mode, and the chance to stack yourself against others on the scoreboards. Still despite that, the game feels very sturdy, is extremely energetic, and puzzle fans looking for a good puzzle game will not be disappointed.

This is a solid puzzle title, which actually has some nice speed to it, which is very rare in puzzle games nowadays. If you can take the fact that the game cost $10, and could probably be found for free somewhere else, then you got a good experience. Zuma Deluxe is a enjoyable and hearty title, and the perfect time killer.
